Improving the wellbeing for office workers is not just a health and safety practicality, it’s also a matter of delivering inspiring environmental aesthetics.Russell Burden – Nebulo Design
The Saga Middleburg call centre, management suite and canteen installations
Over 300 meters by 2 meters of panels wrapped around the core walls of 6 floors. Call centre staff gaze out at the vast vistas of several Californian National Parks. Two of our team were flown out to California by Saga to shoot large format imagery at Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Mono Lake, Tioga Pass, Yosemite and Big Sur. These images together with medium format images of Californian flora and fauna were created for use in the management suite and individual office spaces. Upon return we scanned the imagery, added typography and graphics, and printed the panels to be installed by us on the buildings’ walls. A 3mm tolerance was required over a wall’s length and lasers were used for surveying and levelling. Whilst chatting to their clients, Saga staff now enjoy infinity vistas instead of the old blank walls that stop the eye. Between the floor refurbishment by the architects and the image installation, staff wellbeing and attrition rates were significantly improved. For the canteen we backlit and shot sections of fruit and vegetables to be printed onto thin metal plaques and mounted on small plates to create shadow gaps.
The Saga HQ entrance and chief executive office installations
For the Saga Hopkins Building entrance we photographed the existing cast concrete wall panels and graphically added a yellow/green band to the images. These were printed to the same dimensions as the concrete panels, the end product has the ‘former’ indentations and wet pouring marks flowing naturally from the concrete panels into the artwork and out again. For the Chief Executive’s office we took advantage of the unique viewpoint above the surrounding landscape and photographed the village of Sandgate from the uppermost balcony. This we turned into a detailed line drawing and produced a cleanly framed triptych.
